Pan de muerto is a traditional sweet bread made in Mexico during the weeks leading up to Día de los Muertos on November 2nd. Although the recipe differs from region to region, this soft, slightly chewy bread is generally flavored with orange blossom water and orange rind, and topped with either sugar or sesame seeds.
In addition to learning how to make the dough and shape it in the traditional manner (bones and a skull, formed out of bread dough, top each loaf), photographer and storyteller Karina Mora will explain the fascinating history and cultural context of Día de los Muertos. Finally, you will also learn how to make café de olla (spiced, sweetened coffee) and Mexican hot chocolate, which we will enjoy together along with our fresh-baked bread!
